My Life on the A-List

Hello everyone, and welcome Life on That A-List! You can call me J. No, that is not my real name, but my name doesn't matter, only my story does. There's a tricky thing about entertainment. Everyone assumes one thing: that you want to be  famous!  The moment you tell someone about your hopes for stardom your passion for your craft goes out the window. Suddenly you aren't the kid with a love of theatre, you're that delusional wannabe. I'm not delusional. I know that the a-list is a exclusive club composed of the elite. Whether they are born into it or dedicate their life to getting their, it's a hard group to get into. But every door has a lock, and you need a key to get in, and I want to be the one to the key. Success is measured differently to everyone. For some it's money, others it's power, family, promotions, friends, and of course, happiness. To me, I'd measure my success in this industry if I am able to find steady work. Note that stead...

Update: My Audition With an A-list Agency

Good morning my a-listers. I wanted to start off my morning by giving you an update on what is happening with my future audition. If you read my  previous post  then you would know that some frustration with the current state of my career has led me to audition for one of the top agencies in the world.  I have nothing to lose by going after large companies, so I might as well try. After all, I'm not getting any younger. I'm not going to name drop this agency because I don't want to jinx it or state anything too identifying on this blog. I will, however, share my process of the audition, and maybe if I get accepted I'll let you all know who I'm signing with. But that's all in the future. In the meantime, I need to focus on the audition ahead of me and what is at stake. Some quick background on this agency: it's one of the largest and most powerful agencies in the entire world. It's known for producing global stars from multiple different countries....
I'm getting older, wrinkly, and am constantly surrounded by children who have had more success that I probably ever will. My resume is shit and I'm not even a member of the SAG. Sigh . . . Oh how I hate getting older and seeing how little I've accomplished.

Random Rambles: Stuck in the World of the Z-list

Hello my a-listers. When I initially started this blog I intended for it to be a mix of both tips and tricks, as well as some documentation of what I'm doing out here in LA to try and further my career. Well, I haven't done any personal posts, so I figured that now is better than later. I'm going to apologize in advance since this post will be a bit of a rant and won't offer much insight to Los Angeles or the entertainment industry. To put it bluntly, I haven't been booking work at the rate I would have liked. I've been feeling stuck and in desperate need of a divine intervention to make things work out, but that won't happen. I can, however, fix it myself. My plan out here hasn't been working and I am desperate to switch it up, which is why I have decided to announce that I'll be auditioning for a new agency. If you've been reading my previous posts you'll know that I am signed to an agency, but it's just a mother agency that allo...

How I Signed With My First Acting Agency

Hello my a-listers! I've been writing more about modeling lately and have been neglecting acting. Honestly, it's just because I prefer talking about modeling and the job itself, but I'll try to keep this blog even on both lines of work.  In my last post I talked about how I signed with my first modeling agency , so I figured that I should share how I signed with an acting agency and what my experience was like. If you have been following my blog for awhile now, you'll know that I got started in my career abroad, so let this commemorate my first post about working in America. Yay! This agency that I signed with was honestly nothing special. I wasn't living in LA at the time, and was just searching for agencies near my hometown that I could sign with. I figured that signing with at least one agency could open doors to my career here in America, and also make me seem more legit when applying to agencies in Los Angeles. In my hometown, there are two real agencies ...

How I Signed With My First Modeling Agency

Hello my a-listers! This morning I thought I'd share the process of signing with my first agency. As I've mentioned in my previous post,  I initially worked in entertainment abroad.  So, this blog post will detail the experience of signing with that agency. Upon returning to America, I did sign with an American agnecy, but I'll get into that in another post. First, I'll start at the beginning and share my experience of trying to break into modeling on my own, and a few things I wish I could have done differently. After my first acting job and a few modeling ones,  I figured I better get myself with an agency before I got screwed over by someone. Now, most agencies have three options when it comes to applying: Online.  This seems to be the current trend thanks to the digital boom. It also makes it easier for agencies since they say they will only reply to your application if they are interested in you. Therefore, they don't have to spend so much time going t...

How I Got My First Professional Modeling Job

Hello my A-listers! Just thought of that nickname the other day, and thought it was cute, so let's roll with it for now. Welcome to Life on That A-list! Today, I thought I would share how I got my first professional modeling job. While this job was a legitimate gig and helped launch my career, I was unsigned at the time. I'll get into how I ended up with this job without an agency later. In the meantime, let's start at the beginning. If you read my previous post ( which you all should! ) I discussed how I got my first professional acting job. Unlike many people who spends years  trying to break into the world of television, television was actually my first job. And this job wasn't with some random channel 10000 that no one cared about, it was with the most prestigious network in the country. If you want to know the whole story,  make sure to read it, because this posts ties together with that one. Anyway, following the completion of the television show, I now ha...

How I Got My First Professional Acting Job

Hello everyone, and welcome to Life on That A-list! I thought I'd share some insight into how I broke into the professional acting world. I will say, though, that it all came down to the answer that everyone expects: luck. Also good looks, but I digress. . . I had been trained in acting for awhile at this point. I had never done any work outside of theatre, so I was at a disadvantage compared to the competition of rising actors that had lists of commercials, TV appearances, and movie appearances. I was as green as you could imagine. Fortunately, I was being trained by the right people. My instructor at this point was a renowned theatre actor in the country, and his program was ranked as one of the best in the country. Now, as I'e said before, I was born and raised in America, but got this work while abroad. No, I will not say the exact country, but let's just say that it is one that as much more refined definition of beauty compared to America, and those that fit th...
